Carbon Monoxide Sensor for Combustion Feedback Control
نویسنده
چکیده
A sensor for carbon monoxide detection based on broadband absorption spectroscopy with a gas correlation filter is developed using a miniaturized light source and detector without the need of a mechanical chopper to alternate between two gas correlation cells into the optical path. Measurements were conducted using calibrated CO/N2 mixtures and sampled combustion products from a diffusion flame. The detection sensitivity was found to be 100 ppm for the measured range of 100 to 500 ppm. The sensor can be used to control individual burners in small scale combustion systems in order to maintain combustion efficiency and minimize pollutant emissions during their operation life cycle.

SMART ROOM CARBON MONOXIDE MONITORING AND CONTROL SYSTEM
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is the most abundant air pollutant gas and accumulates rapidly to dangerous concentrations even in areas that seem to be well ventilated. Carbon monoxide detectors/alarm systems exist but people who are old, hearing impaired, partially sighted or heavy sleepers may not get the warning or find it difficult to wake up and get out in the event of dangerous concentration of CO ...
متن کاملII . 4 . 3 Sensors for Advanced Combustion Systems
Introduction The objective of our research has been the development of advanced sensors that have the potential to: (1) minimize the environmental impact of energy conversion via control of combustion-generated pollutants such as NO, CO and unburned hydrocarbons; (2) reduce greenhouse gas (CO2) by improving combustion efficiency; and (3) monitor the fugitive emissions from greenhouse gas seques...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of Ramin's combustion chamber to investigate the factors affecting the production of carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide
The boiler is one of the most vulnerable parts of a power plant, which is responsible for producing steam for moving turbines. In order to increase the thermal efficiency of the power plant, it is necessary to prevent heat loss in the boiler combustion chamber and simultaneously control the environmental pollutant parameters such as NOx and CO. Failure to control environmental pollutants will...
متن کاملModeling of Combustion and Carbon Oxides Formation in Direct Injection Diesel Engine
When looking at the effects of diesel engine exhaust on the environment, it is important to first look at the composition of the exhaust gases. Over 99.5% of the exhaust gases are a combination of nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water. With the exception of carbon dioxide, which contributes about 5% of the total volume, the diesel engine exhaust consists of elements which are part of...
متن کاملNeural Networks for Signal Conditioning in Semiconductor Gas Sensor Arrays
Semiconductor gas sensors are widespread in application, e.g. for the detection of methane in city gas or carbon monoxide from incomplete combustion [1]. Due to the involved chemistry a sensor element does not react to just one gas component, but with different sensitivities to different gas components. Sensor elements prepared with different additives and different operating temperatures respo...
